Central Library Intensifies Efforts to Promote Participation in “A Nation That Reads” Competition

In a concerted effort to foster cultural awareness and encourage female students’ engagement in national initiatives, Central Library at Al-Zahraa University for Women has intensified its support for participation in the significant national competition “A Nation That Reads.” Additionally, Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has launched that competition in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Education. The initiative, which is meant to be an important part of the cultural activities for female students and greatly supported by the University, is designed to cultivate a culture of reading and scientific research among its female students. Furthermore, for the attainment of that objective, the library has organized a series of educational activities, including workshops focused on book selection strategies, intensive discussions and dialogue sessions, as well as the provision of reference lists to guide female students through the various stages of the competition. As a crucial element of the University’s ongoing efforts, the initiative is intended to encourage female students to actively engage with national cultural projects that contribute to their academic and intellectual growth. Besides, participation in such events reinforces the importance of reading in furthering societal progress and enhances female students’ cognitive and critical thinking skills. Moreover, “A Nation That Reads” stands as one of the most significant cultural initiatives launched by Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, aimed at fostering the habit of reading across society, particularly among University female students. The competition comprises multiple stages, requiring participants to write critical reports and summaries of various books, with generous awards presented to exemplary participants. It goes without saying that such cooperation with academic institutions plays a vital role in nurturing a well-read and enlightened society. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research maintains that such initiatives are essential for reinforcing the social role of universities and for cultivating a conscious and creative generation. It bears noting that the University continues to support cultural and educational projects by providing the necessary resources to ensure the success of these initiatives, ultimately bolstering its position as a leading academic institution in the promotion of knowledge and advancement of culture.
Note: Electronic copies (PDF format) of the books required for the competition are available at the Central Library of the University for interested participants.
