Central Library Competitions

1. “Fragrance of Awaiting” Competition

Central Library Department at Al-Zahraa University for Women organized a special competition for female students in cooperation with Al-Abbas Holy Shrine/ Um Al-Baneen Library / along with Riyadh al-Zahraa Magazine. This competition focused on short story writing and revolved around the concept of “waiting”. It goes without saying that such initiatives aim to nurture the literary and cultural skills of female students. Consequently, numerous participants from various university departments partook in the event. Furthermore, appreciation and recognition letters were presented to all participating female students to encourage and motivate further engagement.

2. “Proficient Reader” Competition

Central Library Department at Al-Zahraa University for Women, under the patronage of General Secretariat of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine along with the supervision of the esteemed University President, organized a competition dedicated to books on human development. This initiative highlighted the significance of such human behavior, thought processes, life experiences, as well as personal and intellectual growth. Besides, numerous female students from various University Departments participated by reading and summarizing a wide range of developmental and cultural books available in the Human Development Section, which contains a collection of over 656 titles. The competition concluded with awards for the students who provided the most outstanding summaries, in addition to certificates of appreciation distributed to all participants as a gesture of encouragement and recognition.

3. “Reading a Book” Competition

In honor of Lady Fatima Al-Zahraa's exalted and venerated status and in recognition of the importance to acquaint female students with her life and virtues, Central Library Department at Al-Zahraa University for Women, organized under the aegis of its esteemed President, a religious competition dedicated to Lady Fatimah Al-Zahraa (PBUH). The competition was also held under the patronage of the Eminence Legal Overseer of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine. Consequently, female students were invited to select and summarize a book from the specialized Al-Zahraa Library, which contained approximately 480 titles. As a result, participants from various University Departments engaged in the competition, and the winners were honored with awards presented by the esteemed University Presidency. It is noteworthy that Lady Fatima Al-Zahraa is mother of Paradise Youth Leaders: Imam Hassan (A.S.) and Imam Hussein (A.S.). Furthermore, she is considered from a Muslim perspective as the greatest of Allah’s evidences upon creation. Daughter of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), she is also given the descriptive term “Rihannat Sidrat Al-Muntaha”. As for the term “Sidrat Al-Muntaha”, it means notably Lote Tree of the Furthest Boundary where knowledge of the angels stops at that point, and no one has gone beyond it except the Messenger of Allah Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Moreover, among the epithets attributed to Lady Al-Zahraa are the following terms: “the Word of Piety”, “Al-Urwah Al-Wuthqa (The Firmest Bond)”, “the shielded Veil of Allah”, “the Supreme Mary”, “the Middle Prayer (the afternoon prayer, Asr)”, and “the human incarnation of celestial beauty, through whose recognition the earliest epochs revolved”.

4. Monthly Diverse Competitions

Proceeding from Al-Zahraa University for Women’s commitment to encourage female students on reading and knowledge accession, Central Library Department organizes monthly competitions for female students. These initiatives aim at soulful cultivation, foster confidence, enhance dialogue and discussion skills, as well as contribute to building an enlightened and distinctive society. Each month, a competition centered on the library and the importance of reading is held, with the winner receiving a special prize generously provided by the esteemed University administration.
