In its ongoing endeavors to prevent the complete fading away of reading, promote intellectual creativity, reinforce the role of women both culturally and scientifically, and replenish the library with its products, the Central Library Division participated with a research paper in the Holy Abbasid Shrine Pioneer Women of Culture Forum. The Women’s Library of Umm al-Banin and the Reading and Receiving Unit of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs held the Fourth Pioneer Women of Culture Forum, in the presence of religious, academic and other figures, on the spacious hall of Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba in the noble Abbasid courtyard.
Professor Hanan Farouk Al-Saadi, head of the Central Library Division at Al-Zahraa University revealed in an interview by the editor of the university’s official website: “A delegation from our esteemed university accepted an invitation to partake in the Fourth Pioneer Women of Culture Forum, which included several sound literary research pieces according to the topics it presented. Our research touched upon realistic challenges facing the demand for reading. It commenced with the word “Read” and then looked upon the causes of reading reluctance and effective ways and means to invigorate the practice of active reading through encouragement and support, and presented the “Friends of the Library” project launched by the Abbasid Shrine and its implementation in our university, as well as the consideration of the possible creation of a virtual library.”
She added, “A call was also sent to the concerned authorities on the importance that should be given to school libraries equal to that conferred to academic universities. Moreover, kindergartens and all educational levels should have similar services in order to remedy some behaviors and misconceptions due to modern technology, as well as to upscale outstanding book display capabilities, whether religious, literary, scientific, developmental, etc.”
It is worthy of mention that the forum is the second of its kind in which Al-Zahraa University participated. Al-Saadi won with her research, which will be published according to the approved context. She also received a reward presented by the concerned authority in appreciation of her efforts.
Various items were introduced during the Forum such as literary works, participations, research discussions, honors, a semi-annual competition, a book fair, and other events.
